The New York City Council recently passed two supplemental funding bills and thanks to the efforts of several councilmembers, Agudath Israel Community Services was awarded several grants to help serve constituents. The new bills fund specific council initiatives.

Funding from the Digital Inclusion and Literacy Initiative will be used by Agudath Israel to fund computer classes for people looking to improve their digital skills in order to gain more meaningful employment. More significantly, for the first time ever, Agudath Israel received funding from the Elie Wiesel Holocaust Survivor Initiative which supports nonprofits serving elderly Holocaust survivors living below the poverty line. Agudath Israel will be using this funding to increase its current services to these survivors. These funds are in addition to the funding allocated as part of the city’s regular budget passed in June (See http://agudathisrael.org/new-york-city-budget/).

Agudath Israel thanks Council Speaker Corey Johnson as well as Councilmembers Chaim Deutsch, Rafael Espinal, Mark Levine and Kalman Yeger for their efforts on behalf of these allocations.
