Some people carry papers or a laptop in their attaché cases, but on at least one occasion,  Agudath Israel’s chief of staff and associate director of education, Avrohom Weinstock, brought along a Cisco Model 3600 Wireless Access Point.

If you’re wondering what that is, why Mr. Weinstock brought it with him to a meeting with New York officials, and how that helped lead to millions of additional dollars to New York nonpublic schools, read here.

In other New York news, Governor Cuomo visited two Jewish schools to announce the awarding of millions of dollars for school security. On the city level, Agudath Israel Community Services received significant grants in the council budget which will go to help thousands of families through a variety of social service programs.

Additionally, the budget included a $1 million pilot program to serve kosher and halal meals in schools.

In Washington, the Department of Justice announced its new “Place to Worship” initiative that will help strengthen the awareness of the religious protections afforded by the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA). Agudath Israel was pleased to play an active role on Capitol Hill in crafting and successfully promoting RLUIPA and, since its passage, in litigating cases involving its application.
