Agudath Israel of America expressed its grave concern this week over the ban in the Flanders region of Belgium that effectively prohibits the slaughter of animals according to kosher ritual requirements. Our statement (see here) expressed hope that the Belgian courts will strike down this “grievous statute,” that restricts the religious liberty of the Jewish community.
Last week, we reported on the landmark RLUIPA settlement in Clifton related to zoning discrimination. We added pictures and documents to that story on our website, which can be found here.
And also in Passaic, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill at Yeshiva Bais Hillel dedicating an additional $11.3 million towards school security measures for New Jersey nonpublic school students. This legislative success was due to the leadership of Assemblyman Gary Schaer and the advocacy effort of our New Jersey director Rabbi Avi Schnall and others (see full press release and pictures here)
This week marked the gubernatorial inauguration in Colorado attended by the chairman of Agudath Israel of Colorado, and the first day of the legislative sessions in Maryland and New York. Our government affairs team has an aggressive agenda across the country, and I hope to report on those efforts in the coming weeks. To get more involved in ongoing efforts in your state, contact the appropriate Agudah director or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
