While at least one Jewish organization was apparently “incensed” at President Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court, Agudath Israel welcomed the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh earlier this week. Aside from issuing an official statement (see here), Rabbi Abba Cohen was interviewed by the JTA in an article summarizing the reactions of various Jewish organizations. Rabbi Cohen said that Judge Kavanaugh was an “impressive candidate” and that Agudath Israel “was gratified that he’s given due deference to religious liberty…” See full article here.

In New Jersey, Governor Murphy and legislative leaders worked out a budget deal at the last minute, preventing a government shutdown. For more information about the impact the budget would have on nonpublic school families click here.

Even without headlines (and in most states no legislative action) it is still a very busy time for our government affairs staff and state directors. All of them are working on multiple projects including implementing new laws and programs, attending conferences, and meeting candidates in advance of the upcoming elections.
