COPE Partners with IRS VITA Program

For the third year in a row, COPE Institute of Brooklyn, renowned for its Junior Accounting and CPA track programs, has partnered with the IRS VITA – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance – program to bring federal and state income tax benefits to people with low and moderate incomes. This free tax preparation program is available to community members who cannot afford the services of a paid tax preparer.

COPE’s VITA volunteers consist of students enrolled in the COPE Education Services CPA track as well as graduates who have earned their Bachelor of Science Degree. In addition to their having completed a significant number of accounting courses, all volunteers received special training from the IRS, have passed an IRS qualifying exam and have received IRS certification. According to Rabbi Daniel Baumann, CPA, Director of COPE Education Services, “The volunteers performed an invaluable community service, obtaining several hundred thousands of dollars of tax refunds for those who need it most. At the same time the students gained invaluable experience preparing tax returns which will be of great value in their future careers.”

The quality of the program is of the highest caliber as well. Mr. Robert Aramanda, Senior Relationship Manager for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) extolled the professionalism of the IRS/VITA program as one of the most professional VITA operations under his direction and said,”COPE’s VITA program under the direction of site coordinator, Dovid Rabinowitz, had one of the highest tax-return submission success rates in the region.”

Anyone interested in availing themselves of this service should call the special COPE VITA number at 347-857-VITA (8482).
